Advancing Global Health Through Partnership and Innovation

Your gift to the UC Davis–Kenya Global Health Impact Fund helps bring lifesaving screenings, chronic disease care, HIV prevention, mental health resources and health care training to underserved communities in Kenya while preparing the next generation of compassionate, adaptable health care leaders.

Together with the University of Nairobi and Health Education Africa Resource Team (HEART), UC Davis faculty, students, nurse practitioners, clinicians and researchers work alongside Kenyan partners to strengthen local health care systems. Through medical camps, screenings, education, interprofessional training and hands-on learning, teams address diabetes, heart disease, cancer, anemia, HIV, mental health and other pressing health challenges.

This work focuses especially on women living with HIV and their children and youth, emphasizing prevention, education and whole-person care to help protect the next generation.

Research is also advancing new approaches to care. Technology-assisted screening protocols based on geographic and personal risk factors could help identify cancers earlier in Kenya and other underresourced communities.

For UC Davis students and faculty, working in an underresourced environment builds creativity, adaptability and the ability to think beyond conventional solutions. These experiences strengthen the skills nurse practitioners and other health professionals need to care for rural, underserved and vulnerable communities at home and abroad.

Gifts to our campaign provide support to the multidisciplinary teams from the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, UC Davis Health, and UC Davis Global Affairs partnering with Kenyan clinicians and universities to strengthen chronic disease care in underserved communities. Your gift will help deliver care, advance discovery, strengthen health care professionals and prepare tomorrow’s global health leaders.
