The Carrie Armstrong-Ruport Student Award honors Carrie’s decades of dedicated service to the students as the beloved Graduate Advisor for the Community Development and Geography Graduate Groups.
Until her recent retirement, Carrie brought unique value to our students through her skillful and caring approach and used her encyclopedic knowledge of graduate studies to help students to successfully navigate the system. She has enriched the educational experience of a generation of graduate students and has made the Community Development and Geography Graduate Groups the national leaders that they are today.

The Carrie Armstrong-Ruport Student Award will help honor the achievements of GGG and CDGG students as they demonstrate both academic excellence and commitment to the public good.
Thanks to the generosity of Carrie’s friends, colleagues, and students, we have already raised $8,695, enabling us to begin awarding our exceptional graduate students in spring 2026. Our Crowdfund goal is $5,000, which will allow us to continue recognizing students.
The Geography Graduate Group and the Community Development Graduate Group at UC Davis are nationally-renowned interdisciplinary programs that prepare students to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time: ranging from climate change and environmental management to public health, economic prosperity, sustainable development, and community well-being.
