This campaign has ended. However, you may still support the Behavioral Health Area Art Fund here.
Artists like Vincent Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo created some of their most famous artworks while receiving professional medical care. Van Gogh gave us "Starry Night" while receiving inpatient mental health treatment. Kahlo showed us the most intimate parts of herself while in recovering from a near death experience with, "Henery Ford Hospital". Hertz Nazarie illustrated his life-long struggle with Sickle Cell Disease with projects like "The Waiting Chair" and "Finding Your Colors".
When looking at these works, it becomes clear that art can be a powerful part of the healing process.
The Behavioral Health Area is a space within UC Davis Health's Emergency Department where our community members experiencing a mental health crisis can heal. It is a place where patients can heal with dignity. A part of this healing process is having access to tools and activities that cultivate hope like; paints, paint brushes, craft supplies, coloring books, and markers. Some of these supplies are provided by our Emergency Department; the rest are donated by staff and community members.
Our Behavioral Health Area Nurses and Mental Health Workers (MHW) offer patients the opportunity to create something they can take with them or for UCD-ED to display to the patients and staff in this area.
Our goal is to continue to expand on the idea that art heals us by adding colorful murals, modern and fun ways to display our patient's art, and continue to provide a creative outlet to these patients who can benefit from the process of creating.
Our current goal is $5,000, please give from your heart the same way that our patients give us art from theirs.
