iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machines) is an international synthetic biology competition where undergraduate teams will choose a project topic, conduct research over the summer, and compete at the Grand Jamboree in Paris in October 2025. iGEM educates the workforce and the leaders of the Synthetic Biology industry. Past Davis teams have improved mRNA vaccines, created biosensors to detect environmental toxicity, and created microbes to break down plastics in the environment. iGEM also encourages teams to educate the public about synthetic biology, improving scientific understanding and literacy in Davis.

The UC Davis iGEM teams have utilized the BioInnovation Lab since 2015. The premier international undergraduate synthetic biology competition, the annual iGEM Giant Jamboree brings together more than 4,000 undergraduates from over 300 institutions to present their projects and network with the greater synthetic biology community.

Your gift will provide general support to the iGEM, including our current priority of covering the team's registration fee for the competition and Jamboree, as well as material costs. This allows undergraduates to build professional skills and eliminates barriers to undergraduate research and higher education. This opportunity is open to students from the College of Engineering, College of Biological Sciences, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and College of Letters and Sciences. It also allows the team to work with and compete with teams internationally. Gifts of any size are appreciated, and all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
