Creative Classrooms seeks to help TK-12th grade teachers expand their ability to teach the arts (Dance, Theatre, Music, Visual Arts, and Media Arts) in their classrooms. Studies demonstrate that access to arts instruction in K-12 classrooms positively impacts student learning and engagement, from increasing attendance and graduation rates to promoting social-emotional learning skills. However, despite its well-documented benefits, many students in California still lack access to standards-based arts education — this is especially true for Black and Hispanic students. Creative Classrooms hopes to remedy this disparity by training multi-subject credentialed TK-12 teachers in the practice of arts-integrated teaching. Arts-integrated instruction ensures that students are given access to standards-based arts curriculum alongside and within other content areas including, for example, science, mathematics, history, and English language arts, even if their school lacks a formal arts teacher.

Your gifts will provide support for professional development workshops held by the UC Davis Arts Integration Project, including our current priority, the 2025 Creative Classrooms summer institute, held at UC Davis. Our team relies on donations to fund a two-week workshop for thirty TK-12 teachers focused on supporting their learning about arts-integrated curricula and increasing their confidence in teaching the arts.
